Pupils go long way for sports

IT’s sports day season across the region – but pupils at one school went a long way to take part.

Youngsters at Edmunds Primary School, Worsbrough Bridge, Barnsley, headed to London to visit their Newham Partnership school, Elmhurst Primary, on Tuesday.

They used a £2,500 grant from the Newham Barnsley Partnership Aspiration and Achievement Fund to encourage community initiatives.

After the day of sports competitions in West Ham Park children visited the London Museum.

The fund and partnership aims to spread the legacy of the London 2012 Games outside of the capital city.

Headteacher Sharon Mapplebeck said: “We are extremely grateful that the grant has made this visit possible.”
