A PAIR of pupils scooped a national prize for excelling in the study of a foreign language.

Sheffield High School Year 11 students Jessica Lindley and Clare Rees-Zimmerman won prizes in the Russian Essay Competition, which invited young people to write a piece on Russian celebrity they would like to be friends with.

The success comes ahead of their GCSE Russian exam.

Jessica won second prize overall, which included a theatre ticket, Russian book and a week-long internship at the Pushkin House in London where she will extend her knowledge of Russian culture.

Clare won a special prize for her thorough research.
