Pupils embrace Cultural Diversity Week

Children at Beck Primary marked the occasion by taking part in a whole host of activities aimed at learning all about different countries and cultures.

Pupils embraced the ‘Celebrations around the World’ theme with each class being given a different country to learn about for the week.

Karen Leasley, home to school link worker said: “The children had a great time and were really interested in learning about their friends’ countries as well as their own.

“Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”

Children in Year 3 celebrated American Independence Day by playing games and watching a firework display while snacking on American food.

Children in class F2 learned about France and had the chance to try chocolate crepes and Chinese New Year Dragon dancing was a huge hit with children in one Year 3 class.

All of the children also had the opportunity to learn a new language as part of the event that aims to help pupils in their understanding of diversity and the positive impact it has.

Letters were sent home so families could record their own celebrations and some family members were invited into school to come and discuss a festival from their culture with their child’s class.

The Arches School Sport Partnership came into school for P.E. lessons and did activities with the children related to their country.

A special menu was also available so children could try foods from around the world.

The week finished with a non-uniform day and festival style celebration.
