Pub's gin festival kicks off in Sheffield today

Discover the history and sheer variety of gin at a new festival which launches today (Thursday September 6).

The Devonshire on Division Street is running the series of events until September 27.

Fans of gin can sign up for an expert tutorial with Ben Schulze, formerly of Sheffield Dry Gin and now representing Martin Millers, for £10.

Each class will differ slightly covering the history of the gin, the brand, different garnishes and mixers. The first today specialises in Martin Millers gin, with others to cover Yorkshire and American gins.

The festival culminates in a three course Gin Feast. Tickets for that are £35 a head.

Spreading their wings

Wine and Whiskey, the micro bar specialising in fine wines, rare whiskeys and craft beers on Ecclesall Road, has confirmed its first events after opening earlier this year.

On Saturday September 15 there is a British Bourbon Society tasting, with limited tickets at £30 still available.

A cocktail evening has also been planned on Thursday December 6, with Hi Spirits. Tickets are £20 with £10 to spend onpurchases on the night.

And the team are also planning food and wine nights in collaboration with John Parsons and Christian from JM Mann fishmongers in Sharrowvale.

Award for Abbeydale

Sheffield-based Abbeydale Brewery received a bronze medal in the Golden Ales category at the Champion Beer of Britain Awards for flagship Moonshine ale.
