Residents are invited to a meeting to hear plans to redevelop one of Europe’s most polluted former industrial sites.

The Homes and Communities Agency has submitted plans to develop part of the former Avenue Coking Works, at Wingerworth, Chesterfield. Housing and other uses are proposed for the 242 acres.

Chesterfield Council is to hold the meeting at Birdholme Working Men’s Club, Rothervale Road, next Thursday, October 10, from 7.15pm.

Speakers from the Homes and Communities Agency, and North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield and Derbyshire councils will be there.

The proposals are for up to 1,100 homes plus land for a primary school, offices, workshops, light industry and a new roundabout from the A61 Derby Road.
