BARNSLEY MP Dan Jarvis is trying to drum up support for a public meeting about the proposed closure of Royston fire station.
Fire chiefs want to close the station and three others in Sheffield, as part of plans to save £10 million over the next four years following Government funding cuts.
If their proposals get the go-ahead Mosborough station would be replaced with a new one at Birley and another new one would be built as a replacement for those at Mansfield Road and Darnall. But Royston’s would just go.
A public meeting on the closures is to be held at Royston Civic Hall on Wednesday, December 7, at 7pm.
Mr Jarvis has joined forces with local councillors to call on residents to attend. He said: “This is a critical issue for the people of Royston.”
