Public make views known on road plan

COUNCIL bosses in Sheffield have been inundated with responses about traffic regulations at one of the city's most dangerous junctions.

The authority has received over 450 comments and views about the temporary traffic restriction at Long Line, Dore.

The trial restrictions began in February 2007 and the council's Road Safety Officers have been gathering information since on how it is working.

They’ve been looking at the levels of driver-compliance, traffic speeds, and traffic flows on other roads in the area.

The trial bans all vehicles from accessing Long Line from Sheephill Road, apart from local buses, the emergency services, and agricultural vehicles.

The hope is that by reducing the number of vehicles at the crossroads on Hathersage Road there should be fewer accidents caused by vehicles coming out of Long Line and Cross Lane.

Bryan Lodge, cabinet member for transport and streetscene at Sheffield Council, said: "There has been a fantastic response from residents and motorists in the area.”

Once analysed it will be reported to the City Centre, South and East Planning and Highways Area Board to decide if the restrictions should be made permanent.
