A NEW Pubwatch group has been set up in Whittington Moor, Derbyshire, as part of work to prepare for League One football matches being held in Chesterfield.

It was launched following Chesterfield FC’s promotion last season, which will mean new teams and supporters travelling to the town for football games.

Derbyshire Police and the Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership contacted 19 pubs about getting involved and 11 have signed up.

A total of £5,000 has been spent on relocating a mast and buying radios for the publicans involved to help them keep in touch with each other, the police and CCTV operators.

Pubwatch Officer Jane Randall said: “Bringing the publicans together in a Pubwatch group will help them to share information with each other and the appropriate authorities and as a result deal with any issues they have, particularly ones relating to the football.”

Inspector Steve Ball, of Derbyshire Police, said: “We welcome the group and are very pleased to have helped set it up. We feel it will play a significant role in helping everyone - businesses, residents, Spireite supporters and visiting fans - to have a great season.”
