A mural honouring the life of Britain’s first black footballer has been unveiled on the side of a Rotherham pub.

The black and white image of former Rotherham United and Sheffield United player Arthur Wharton measuring 6ft by 6ft is on the wall of the beer garden at the Bridge Inn in the town centre.

It has been created by graffiti artist Phil Padfield and there are plans to follow it with a statue of the Ghana-born players outside the Millers’ New York Stadium.
