Pub conversion plans given the green light

Plans have been approved for the conversion of a former pub into a house.

Sheffield Council’s planning board approved the proposals for The Crossfield Tavern, on Mortomley Lane, High Green.

Anne-Marie Watkinson, making the application, said the pub’s owners, Punch Taverns, had struggled to find a tenant to make the venue viable.

The proposal resulted in 18 letters of objection from neighbouring residents objecting to the loss of a community facility and worried that the building could be converted into flats at a later date.

But Mrs Watkinson said she has no plans to make such a change.

Sheffield Council planning officers had recommended approval for the project.

They said the building is within a housing area so conversion is appropriate - and there are other public houses close to the site.

Planning officers said: “The plans show no alterations to the building and, as such, it is considered there will be no impact on the street scene.

“As a single dwelling, it would have less impact on the locality than the current pub.”
