Protesters gather to save tree earmarked for felling in Sheffield street

Protesters have gathered in a Sheffield street this morning to protect a tree earmarked for felling.

They have gathered in Chippinghouse Road, Nether Edge, where a number of demonstrations have already been held.

The group objects to a tree felling programme being carried out by Sheffield Council contractor Amey as part of a city-wide street improvement scheme.

Earlier this month seven protesters who gathered on the street to protect a horse chestnut tree were arrested and charged under the Trade Union and Relations Act, which aims to prevent people from stopping others from working.
