A ‘prolific criminal’ who targeted wealthy areas has been jailed after being caught in a stolen car following a dramatic police chase through Sheffield.
Shane Whitworth, 38, of Hendon Street, Handsworth, was spotted by officers on March 13 in a stolen Volkswagen Golf that had been taken from a property in the Ringinglow Road area of Sheffield two days earlier.
He was pursued by police, with the Golf crashing into two other vehicles before stopping in Green Lane, Darnall.
Officers found a stolen television that had been taken from a property in Aughton less than two hours before inside the vehicle.
Whitworth was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court this week after admitting handling stolen goods and aggravated vehicle taking.
Detective Constable Christopher Chueng said: “Whitworth is a prolific criminal that targeted particularly affluent areas of Sheffield. Despite serving sentences for similar offences previously, he has continued to commit crime and the sentence handed to Whitworth earlier this week demonstrates that his blatant disregard for the law will not be tolerated.
“He is now off the streets for a number of years and I hope the victims of his thefts are reassured by this conclusion. Handling stolen goods is a serious offence and I am grateful to the local officers for their excellent work in apprehending Whitworth.”
