Project to boost threatened bird

Work to protect the habitat of a threatened species of bird starts this week at Fox Hagg Nature Reserve, in the Rivelin Valley.

The willow tit is a Red List species, which means it is globally threatened, and has suffered a 50 per cent decline in numbers in the last 25 years.

Under the £19,000 project, the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust will stop the spread of vegetation unfavourable to the birds, promoting willows and other trees it needs to survive.
