Probe into Sheffield blaze continues to determine what caused fire which left casualty seriously injured
An investigation into a Sheffield blaze is continuing today after it engulfed a shop and flats yesterday and left one casualty in hospital.
Around 40 firefighters spent most of yesterday tackling a serious fire at a row of shops on Chesterfield Road, Heeley.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at around 10.30am and found that a shop and flats above were involved.
Firefighters rescued one casualty from the inferno, who was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
The fire was initially believed to have started in Milan’s pizza takeaway shop but it has now been established by the fire service that it broke out at a window shop next door.
The flames spread to flats above and the roof.
At the height of the blaze there were seven fire engines and a turntable ladder at the scene.
Police officers and paramedics were deployed and an air ambulance was scrambled.
