Probe into cause of Sheffield house blaze after dramatic rescue

An investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire in Sheffield after a dramatic rescue this morning.

Firefighters were called to a blaze in Ellesmere Road North, Burngreave, just after 3.20am and found the kitchen of the property well alight.

Two occupants of the house were rescued from the blaze - one from a bedroom and the other from the roof of the property.

Firefighters led them to safety using ladders and they were both taken to hospital.

Six firefighters wearing specialist breathing apparatus entered the burning home and used three water hoses to douse the flames.

The fire is believed to be accidental but the exact cause is not yet known.

Firefighters left the scene just before 4.50am.
