Private bin collection service set to launch in Sheffield

Households struggling to cope with Sheffield’s fortnightly bin collections are being offered an alternative service.

Businesswoman Nichola Culs, from Fox Hill, is launching Take My Waste, which will charge £11 a month to collect rubbish from homes on weeks when council contractor Veolia does not provide collections.

Sheffield Council decided to reduce its service last summer to save £2.4 million a year.

But some households have complained they are struggling to fit all their rubbish into the black bin if it is emptied once a fortnight.

Nichola, a former cleaner who initially plans to operate the business on her own, but hopes to take on staff, said: “Households signing up to the service will be provided with high-strength rubbish sacks which we will collect.

“We’ve had interest from around 70 households so far, and hope to launch the collections next month.”
