Jerry Spencer and some of his staff visited the make-shift camp at the old Civic Theatre site in Doncaster recently, to delivering items including tea-bags, coffee, sugar, milk and toiletry packs, donated by HMP & YOI Doncaster.

Mr Spencer said: “Day in, day out within Justice & Immigration, we look after some of the most vulnerable people, ensuring they are kept safe and provided with a decent environment.

“Given the time of year, we felt that we should reach out to those people who have their liberty but are equally vulnerable, hence our visit to the homeless community.

“We were humbled by what we saw, in particular with the volunteers giving their time up to help house these members of the community.

“We just hope that what we were able to provide brings some level of decency to their lives over the next few weeks.”

Dubbed ‘Doncaster Tent City,’ the camp was set up last month in Waterdale, as a ‘safe haven’ for the town’s homeless.
