Prime Ministers

Can anyone please advise me as to the name of our last elected prime minister as, so far as I am aware, not only have we never had one but our constitution makes no provision for a mechanism by which we can get one.

I ask the question because yet again a contributor, unhappy with the referendum result, has thought it relevant to point out that Theresa May was not elected Prime Minister.

This is wheeled out as though it were some unprecendented event in our parliamentary history when in fact it is business as normal.

The leader of the largest group of MPs in Parliament becomes Prime Minister if they can form a Government. People may not be happy with this. They may, as is their right, seek change to the system but it is what we have at the moment.
