Pride as young people graduate from Meadowhall training scheme

Young people who had struggled to find work have completed a pre-employment training programme at Meadowhall.

The free Bright Lights programme ran at the Sheffield shopping centre for five weeks, combining classroom learning and work placements at retailers including House of Fraser and HMV.

The aim was to give unemployed people aged 16 to 24 the skills they need to build a career in customer service.

Lord Mayor of Sheffield Denise Fox presented 14 trainees with their BTEC, customer service and health and safety qualifications. The scheme was run in partnership with The Source Skills Academy.

Meadowhall centre director Darren Pearce said: “We’re extremely proud of our Bright Lights’ trainees, they’ve shown great dedication during their work placements.

“There is a lot of young talent in Sheffield and we, together with our retailers and restaurants, are so happy to have been involved in the programme and offer some of our trainees’ jobs as we head into the busy Christmas period.”

The Bright Lights pre-employment training programme will run again in 2017.
