After missing out by two points at Owlerton 24 hours earlier, it was always going to be a big ask for the Tigers but they kept the hosts on their toes in the opening exchanges.

Guest No. 1 Ricky Wells made a flyer in the opener as he sped clear while reserve Arthur Sissis battled hard on the inside to grab third ahead of Jake Allen to pull level on aggregate.

While a 4-2 to Somerset pulled the hosts back clear in the second, an impressive ride from guest Stuart Robson saw him ride every inch of the track to hold off Paul Starke and Charles Wright.

Six behind on aggregate, the Tigers knew snatching a heat advantage in the eighth was crucial to keeping their chances alive. Kyle Howarth and Sissis gated on a 5-1, but were forced to settle for a 4-2 as Allen plugged away up the inside on lap three.

However, a key point in the meeting came when the Tigers were made to pay for a run of slow getaways as they conceded three heat advantages on the spin.

Twelve points down overall with just four races remaining, the Tigers knew their chances were getting slimmer before their fate was sealed in heat 13.

Howarth rode a tremendous opening first two bends and seemed to pull clear of his opponents on the first lap.

However, an even more spectacular ride from the Rebels duo of Tungate and Josh Grajczonek saw them squeeze either side down the back straight on lap three to pull off a 5-1 and confirm the Championship success.

After being depleted by injuries throughout the season, Tigers can be proud of their efforts and reaching the Grand Final will be seen as a big plus by club bosses.
