Pregnant women needed for MRI study

The University of Sheffield has issued an appeal for pregnant volunteers to take part in a pioneering new study.

The university is seeking volunteers in South Yorkshire who are aged 16-years-old or over and at least 18 weeks pregnant for the study.

The study will look at the role of MRI scanning during pregnancy.

This particular research has been running across the country since 2011 and is funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment Programme.

Expectant mums participating in the study will have an MRI scan, performed by an expert consultant, to look at the baby’s brain.

Some volunteers may also be invited for a detailed ultrasound scan.

Neither of the scans carries any risk to babies taking part, and participants will be given an MRI picture of their baby to keep, as well as a £10 voucher.
