Powerless to reach meter

Have your say

NATALIE Murphy’s problem with her electricity meter grew at the same rate as her bump.

The pregnant 29-year-old has been unable to reach the unit for the last seven months because it is deep inside a floor level corner cupboard.

She has had to rely on her mum to clamber in and insert a prepaid electricity key.

Natalie says she has been without power at her home on Valentine Crescent, Shiregreen, on several occasions and once had to throw away the contents of her freezer.

The meter was enclosed in a cupboard in a revamp in 2008, but Natalie says she was unaware of the layout until it was complete.

Natalie, who is 37 weeks pregnant, said: “Sanctuary Housing keeps fobbing me off, but it will be months after I give birth before I’m fit enough to reach the meter again?”

A SANCTUARY spokesman said they would rejig the cupboard.
