Power firm threatens to cut off mum

A TOLL Bar mum returned to her flood-ridden house to discover a letter from electricity suppliers nPower threatening to cut her off.

Mum-of-two Jane Manningfield was furious - because her home had only one working socket when the letter arrived!

The notice demanded settlement of an unpaid bill of 58.66 and threatened an additional payment of 215 for costs.

Jane, who lives on Askern Road in Toll Bar, said: “We had a letter telling me they’re going to cut me off in a week.

“How can they threaten to cut off my electric when we haven’t been home in four weeks?

“We’ve lost everything in the downstairs of the house and we had the electric cut off for the flooding anyway. It’s disgraceful!

“I told them I’m not paying it yet. It’s very inconsiderate.”

A spokesman for Npower said: “We would firstly like to apologise to Jane if we have caused her any further distress as she is clearly going through a very upsetting time but our disconnection policy would have prevented her from being cut off.

“This was not a disconnection notice - it was a prompt to pay the bill.

Bills and reminders would have been already sent out to her and our automated billing systems would not have known about her personal situation.”
