Traffic lights on a major Sheffield road are out of order this afternoon after a lorry crashed into an electricity substation.

The lorry, which was carrying rubble, ran out of control on Penistone Road, Owlerton, at around noon and crashed into a substation next to the J Horne Starlight kitchen and bedroom showroom.

Firefighters cut the lorry driver free from his cab.

Crews remain at the scene alongside firefighters and paramedics.

One city-bound lane of Penistone Road is blocked off while emergency services are dealing with the incident.

Stagecoach and Supertram said the incident has led to delays.

Nearby businesses, including the New Barrack Tavern, are reporting power cuts.
