Post-match reaction: Ferguson disappointed with result despite late comeback

Darren Ferguson thought Rovers were 'completely dominant' against Gillingham and was left disapppointed that his side failed to make it three league wins on the bounce for the first time this season.

The Scot’s frustration came despite seeing his side recover from two goals down in the closing stages to draw 2-2 with the high-flying Gills.

Ferguson said: “I’m disappointed because we haven’t won three games on the bounce in the league this season and that was the challenge today.

“It’s a really disappointing result. I don’t know how we’ve not won the game to be honest. We were completely dominant.

“They had two shots on goal in the first half. They scored with one and hit the bar with the other.

“We had two great chances at 2-2.”

He continued: “We spoke about starting the second half well and we spoke about having patience and not forcing things. I thought in the first half we sometimes forced too many things. We have to be patient and stick to the game plan.

“We had a lot of the ball without creating too many clear cut chances. I wanted us to play a bit quicker and with a bit more quality in the last third.

“Of course, they scored [the second] and from that point the game was so open, which suited them more than us.

“At that point you were thinking this could be hard work but we managed to get control of the game again and we got our composure back. We changed the shape which helped us.

“You need quality to get back in the game and Cammy scored a great goal. At 2-1 I thought we’d go and win it.

“They’ve twice been 2-0 ahead in games and lost them both to Wigan and Walsall. I felt at that point we’d go on and win it.

“It was a great goal by Willo to equalise but we should win it.”
