Positive Sheffield Wednesday injury news: Latest on Barry Bannan, Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Sam Hutchinson and Joost van Aken ahead of Championship match against Middlesbrough
While Sheffield Wednesday have had a setback following the news that Fernando Forestieri is out injured, there has been a lot of positive news on the team fitness front too.
Speaking ahead of Friday night's Championship match against Middlesbrough at Hillsborough, Jos Luhukay gave a rundown on the players who had been doubtful for the game, as well as those who are on their way back from longer term injuries.
Sheffield Wednesday Press Conference: Fernando Forestieri injury deals fresh blow for Jos Luhukay Importantly, the scare surrounding Barry Bannan has subsided with Luhukay revealing that the groin strain suffered against Bristol City was not serious and the hugely influential midfielder has trained all this week and last with the rest of his team mates.
Forward Steven Fletcher has also suffered no ill-effect from a knock taken on his back in that game and he, too, has trained normally during the international break.
'Fletcher is perfect, he trained normally all last week, he has no negative reaction after the game so we are happy with that,' said Luhukay.
'(Bannan) is also no problem. He trained in all the sessions and we are happy with that of course.'
Sam Winnall, last week, made a goalscoring comeback for the under 23s and is scheduled to turn out again this weekend for the underage side as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained while on loan at Derby last season.
'(Winnall) is in a positive way, he will play on Saturday for the under 23s for the sco nd time and I think he will play 60-70 minutes so he is on the way back.'
'Joost Van Aken is going in a positive direction. He has trained with the team for the last two weeks, so in the next 10 days he can possibly play for the under 23s'Â
Sam Hutchinson and Morgan Fox played in that under 23s match last week and they too are fit and available for selection.
