The Three Tuns, in Dronfield, took to their Facebook page to inform customers that the pub is set to close before Christmas.

Its landlords, who have spent six-and-a-half years in charge of the pub, said they are both 'absolutely devastated' with the news and speed of events.

Posting a statement on Facebook, the pub explained: "As you may imagine, things are very much up in the air at present but we hope to open as normal tomorrow and we will post opening times on here when we know ourselves.

"Once again, we'd like to thank you all for your support and if your around, please pop in for a final drink."

The news prompted an outpouring of disappointment and shock from customers who have labelled the decision to evict the tennants as 'appalling'.

Graham Horton posted: "That's appalling news and a truly awful way to treat people. You've done an amazing job with the Three Tuns, Sue and I sincerely hope that things will work out for you."

Debs N Mart Sharpe said: "We can't believe this, we are here to fight this if we can, the owners really have no heart, I hope no ones going to support their business going forward if this goes ahead. We need a local pub for local people this is part of our community."

The Three Tuns said it was humbled by the comments, sentiment and support showed by its customers and said they would not give up without a fight.

They said: "We have been overwhelmed by the good wishes and support shown on here. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone for showing solidarity. We will keep you informed of any further developments."
