Pop-up breastfeeding cafe celebrates choice in town

A pop-up Breastfeeding Cafe will be in Barnsley this week, where breastfeeding mums can share experiences, offer support and celebrate their choice.

The event is part of a national campaign to celebrate breastfeeding and the Barnsley pop-up cafe is one of 50 being held throughout the UK this month.

The cafe will be held at Blue Lights Photograpy Studio on Agnes Road on Wednesday, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Organiser, and qualified newborn photographer, Adele Haywood, who runs Blue Lights Photography in Barnsley, said: “I’m hosting the cafe as part of breastfeeding brand Medela’s May campaign. It’s the perfect opportunity for mums to come along and chat to other breastfeeding mummies, make new friends and get some mum-to-mum support over a cuppa and a slice of cake. It doesn’t matter where you are on your breastfeeding journey - why not pop along to hear some stories? Maybe you’ve finished breastfeeding but want to join in, come along and share your experiences with us.”

Medela decided to launch the campaign after a recent survey found that 76 per cent of mums believe that talking with other mums at support groups helped to, not only reassure them, but actually support their feeding journey.

Medela UK’s Education Manager and in-house Lactation Consultant, Sioned Hilton said: “There is no doubt that breastfeeding is the best way to feed however it is not easy and it can be challenging at times. Having a good, reassuring and supportive network around you is vital. We know that every feeding journey is unique however there are common difficulties shared by mums and talking about them is extremely helpful.”
