The 27-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, recently won the Predator Cues British Wheelchair 9-ball Pool Championship in Stoke.

Lester, who has competed on the British Wheelchair Pool Players Association (BWPPA) tour for eight and a half years, is now in line to play at the forthcoming World Championships and EPBF European Championships.

The former Danum School pupil beat British number one Fred Dinsmore of Ireland 5-3 in the quarter-finals on his way to victory.

He then defeated Wales’ Craig Welsh 5-4 before beating British number three Aslam Abubaker 5-3 in the final.

“It’s a massive win for me,” said Lester, of Armthorpe.

“And it was made all the more special not just because of who I had to beat, but it also puts me eighth in the UK rankings.

“I am now highly likely to get invites to the major international tournaments - although I will need a sponsor if I am going to be able to accept.

“My ambition for the coming season is to win more tournaments,” he added. “Now I’ve got one under my belt, it’s a big monkey off my back.”

Lester’s cerebral palsy means he has to use an electric wheelchair and his left side is affected. He is unable to make a bridge for the cue with his hand, so uses a Cannon Aid.

His dedication to the sport sees him travel by bus to Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley three or four times a week to practice.
