Poll: Should plans for £37m South Yorkshire theme park Gulliver's Valley have been approved?

Construction on the theme park, which will also include a water play zone, climbing centre and a glades attraction, is hoped to begin before the end of the year.

Many Star readers were thrilled to hear that members of Rotherham Council's planning committee approved the plans for the Pit House West site.

Gulliver's Valley is expected to create around 400 jobs and a report to the planning board stated it would bring an "increase in numbers of tourists and visitors to Rotherham".

However, protests have raised the issue that the land is within the green belt with many nearby residents also raising concerns about traffic and noise pollution.

Vanessa Louise Milner was one of many readers to post on the Star's Facebook page in favour of the plan's approval.

She said: "Do you know how many jobs this will create and how many kids would stop hanging around on the streets... not everyone can afford to travel to alton towers or other places... I think it's gonna be great!! Bring it on."

However, John Sanderson was one of many to raise concerns, claiming: "More green belt land gone for a stupid theme park...More noise and traffic problems to a already congested area...."
