South Yorkshire Mayor shares most controversial view - who is the best James Bond

“I’d love to see a South Yorkshire-based Bond”

The region’s mayor set out his vision for a ‘South Yorkshire James Bond’ as he reveals who his favourite 007 is.

During his first Q&A with The Star, Oliver Coppard faced questions from the public, covering topics like the greenbelt and public transport.

However reader Andrew Wooding used his opportunity to ask the hard-hitting question - who was the best James Bond.

“I think I’m maybe [going out] on a bit of a limb here, but who was the Bond that only did the one Bond film?” The mayor said.

“That was the best Bond film.”

He was referencing George Lazenby, who only portrayed Britain’s favourite secret agent in the 1969 film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.

The mayor joked that he would “get crucified in the comments” for failing to remember his name, but added: “He was the best Bond. I love that guy.”

He went on to say: “Maybe we could have a Sheffield Bond? Sean Bean - is Sean Bean too old these days?

“I’d love to see a South Yorkshire-based Bond.”
