Sheffield’s 84 members and officers will move down the road to meet at Ponds Forge for the AGM on Wednesday, May 19.

It’s the first meeting since the local elections and will be a busy one. Existing Lord Mayor Tony Downing will stand down, following a two year term which was extended due to the pandemic.

Current Deputy Lord Mayor Gail Smith is expected to receive the chains of office but she will not have the ceremony in the grandeur of the Town Hall.

A new Council Leader will be elected after former Leader Bob Johnson lost his seat at the local elections.

There will be a new coalition, after Labour lost control of the council, and a new committee system, which will replace the existing Cabinet, will also be approved.

Members of the public can attend the meeting but must register by emailing [email protected] no later than 9am on Monday, May 17 so the meeting can maintain social distancing.

Everyone will be required to wear a face covering and the council is also recommending that people undertake a Covid-19 Rapid lateral flow test within two days of the meeting.
