Grip UK wants to turn a vacant unit on 15 Sutherland Street into the hub that will be run by The Climbing Hangar.
In a statement provided with the plans Urban Space Planning, on behalf of Grip UK, said the company has operated for 10 years and is now looking to expand and grow further across the country to meet growing interest and demand in rock climbing, which will debut as an Olympic event in Tokyo this year.

“The proposed use is aimed at catering for the surrounding local area, with the majority of users expected to originate from surrounding businesses and neighbourhoods in the area…
“The proposals will have a positive impact on the wider area, and provide a clean, safe and accessible facility which fits within the nature of this location and will support the current business uses.
“The proposals are in line with local planning policies and will provide improved opportunities for health, fitness and social interaction for employees and residents in this area, as well as generating employment and new economic investment.”

If approved by Sheffield Council, the development will create roles for 15 full-time and 15 part-time members of staff which will be recruited locally where possible.
Proposed opening hours are 6.30am to 10pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 8pm on weekends.
A total of 38 car parking spaces would be available for use by the centre, including a disabled parking bay. There would also be a cycle shelter for 30 bikes.
