The Sheffield Housing Company - a joint venture between Sheffield Council, Keepmoat and Great Places - submitted the application to the council last week.

It wants to build 101 houses on the Manor near Manor Park as part of a project to regenerate Pennine Village.

If approved, the homes will be a mix of two, three and four bedroom detached, semi detached and terraced housing with a “variety” of garden sizes.

In a statement written on behalf of the Sheffield Housing Company, JTP Architects said: “The regeneration of the Pennine Village neighbourhood represents a significant investment that must last the test of time, attract a wide audience of new residents, and contribute to making the area of Manor an even better place to live.

“To do this, and to perform as a sustainable development, the homes and new estate infrastructure have been designed to high quality standards using nationally recognised schemes.”

The plans are part of a wider programme of development and regeneration across Sheffield.

Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust submitted a neutral comment that asked for a number of conditions to be put in place to guard habitats including to protect hedgehogs and trees as well as provide bird and bat boxes.

Some residents raised concerns about parking, loss of green space, the impact on local services and the appearance of the buildings.

One said: “We strongly object to planning permission being granted for this.

“The square area on the top half of Manor Park Avenue and facing onto Manor Park Crescent has always been a green area with shrubs and trees in the center of it since the estate was built approximately 70 years ago and should be kept the same.

“It should be used as a play area for children of the surrounding proposed dwellings to use in the future as it has been used in the past by the children of Manor Park.”
