Planners want to demolish a bungalow in this Sheffield suburb to build five new houses - despite more than 50 objections

Sheffield Council received 30 objections on the first round of consultation and 27 on the second about the proposed development of the site on Worcester Drive, Lodge Moor.

They raised concerns about traffic, overshadowing, reductions in house values, noise and about it being ‘out of character’ with the surrounding area.

One person even said the amended plans were ‘worse than the initial design’.

If the plans are approved, the existing bungalow would be knocked down to make way for a two and three storey apartment block comprising of five apartments - four two-bed and one one-bed - and seven off-street parking spaces.

Council officers said in their report on the application the development would be ‘acceptable’ and recommended councillors approved the plans.

They said: "It is considered the apartment block is of high design quality that would sit comfortably within the context of the site.

"While concerns have been raised in relation to the size and appearance of the building, it is considered that the proposal represents an appropriate form of development that would not harm the character or appearance of the area. Indeed, it is considered that the contemporary design approach will make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the area.

The council is set to make a decision on the plans at a highways and planning committee meeting, on January 28.
