Developers are looking to refurbish shops Ecclesall Road including the old Nature Trail health store, and convert offices above into four apartments.

AAD Architects say in the application: “This relates to the first and second floors of 663-665 Ecclesall Road, and proposes the conversion from offices into four separate apartments, together with the refurbishment of existing retail premises at the ground floor of 661-665 Ecclesall Road.

“The offices are believed to have been originally constructed in the early 1900s as residential accommodation.

“The proposed apartments extend over the first and second floors and will each provide an entrance hallway, one double bedroom, a bathroom and an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area. Access will be via the service lane to the rear of the property.

“The ground floor is currently occupied by two retail units, 663 and 665, which are currently vacant and have been for some time, and 661 is currently occupied by a vaping retailer.”

Developers say the main rooms in the apartments will have an outlook and natural light and while there isn’t any outdoor space, that’s not uncommon for accommodation in this part of the city especially as Endcliffe Park is so close.

The application adds: “This proposal presents a suitable and sustainable solution to reinstate residential accommodation together with revitalising the main retail premises.”
