"A victory for Reform’s common sense policies" newly-elected Sheffield councillor says
Reform have taken another seat on the council
A new Reform councillor elected in a Sheffield by-election has described his win as “a victory for Reform’s common sense policies on housing, public transport, the state of Sheffield’s roads and how the council is managed”.
Paul Jakeman won a seat in the Southey ward at yesterday’s by-election, winning with 1,113 votes - 297 ahead of Labour candidate Jayne Dunn.
The newly-elected councillor said: “This was a victory for Reform’s common sense policies on housing, public transport, the state of Sheffield’s roads and how the council is managed.”

The election was called in July after the resignation of Gareth Slater, who was elected for Labour in 2024 but became an independent earlier this year.
Following Coun Jakeman’s victory, Reform now hold two seats in the Southey ward.
Reform's Yvonne Sykes unseated former Lord Mayor Jayne Dunn at the May 7 council elections, winning by 2,157 votes to 1,059.
The latest victory has been celebrated by Sheffield’s Reform Councillor Group Leader, John Hesketh, who said that Coun Jakemen is a “welcome addition”.
The Stocksbridge and Upper Don councillor added: “He’s a local man with years of experience running an outdoor pursuits company in Sheffield and supporting grass-roots football.
“He will fit in well with Reform’s wish to hold the current Labour and Green Party town hall leadership to account.”
