A total of £183,000 from the Westfield Big Local Fund and Sheffield Council to create the playground at Westfield Park, Mosborough, was approved in a cabinet meeting this week.

Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure, said: “The new playground will be a fantastic addition to Westfield estate, and it’s with thanks to those in the community, councillor Tony Downing and everyone involved in the partnership who have worked so hard to make this possible. I can’t wait to see this project get off the ground, with support and input from the local people it will serve.”

In a report, council officers said the scheme is part of a wider project led by local residents.

They added it was a part of the city which currently has no playground facilities and that this work follows a campaign by the local community over a number of years.

Play equipment will be aimed at a range of ages and abilities and include a climbing unit, swing set, an inclusive basket swing and roundabout and play panels.

There will also be a 122m fence and two gates to ensure safety, soft landscaping, tree and bulb planting, a bike track for balance bikes and scooters and a seating area.

It is hoped the project will have health and wellbeing benefits for the community and increase positive use of the park.
