DLP Planning have put together a statement on behalf of West Street Leisure, and said: “The change of use of this premises will improve the vibrancy of the area by making best use of a building which has stood vacant for some time.

“Overall, the proposed new bar will make a welcome addition to West Street, making best use of an underutilised building whilst ensuring that residential amenity of local neighbours is not harmed.”

Two residents who live at the nearby West Point have objected, saying they are worried it will be a “brutal” disturbance.

One said: “Knowing the antisocial behaviour we are already experiencing from the pubs and clubs in the area, I do not think such a proposal should be allowed next to a purpose built residential development.

Residents in the city centre have a right to a decent quality living environment which you (the council) have previously stated needs to be balanced against the desire to improve Sheffield’s night time economy.

“Allowing another such venue with a dance floor and playing loud bass music, serving alcohol to already drunk people where there are residential premises directly next to them is totally unacceptable.”
