Roads in Deerlands, Waterthorpe, Highfield, Jordanthorpe, Burncross, Norton, Carter Knowle, Westfield, Herdings, High Green and Fulwood were identified as further areas which could benefit from 20 mph zones.

Work on these will be funded by a Road Safety Fund worth £4 million which was delivered as part of Labour’s budget amendment and covers low speed zones as well as things like safety crossings.

Councillor Tony Downing Lord Mayor and representative for Mosborough, added: “We recently secured an important crossing in Halfway and now we have further plans to make more areas in the ward 20 mph zones. Westfield and Waterthorpe residents have been asking for these changes and with my Labour colleagues we’ve worked on securing additional funds to make this possible.

“The benefits of 20 mph zones cannot be understated – quite simply, they save lives.
