Mosborough Rugby Club wants to build a clubhouse and changing rooms, upgrade car parking facilities, improve access and install floodlights to two pitches on the site of the old Westfield School on Westfield Crescent.

There’s been 70 letters in support of the plans but 13 objections from local residents who are worried about a potential increase in traffic.

One club member who lives at Tickenham Glen said: “Having played for Mosborough for 18 years since the age of 16 I am all for this development. It is a great community hub and social facility used by many including parents, kids and families alike.

“To finally have our own facilities after nearly 40 years as a rugby club would be an amazing achievement and would greatly benefit the local community. We are a fully inclusive local club that lives to engage with the local community.”

Residents are concerned though. One said: “Whilst I have no objection to the clubhouse itself I do to the road access coming up though Westfield Crescent. It is bad enough getting on and off our estate at the best of times.

“When original planning permission was given to building on the site we were assured no major through traffic would be created on the estate.

“I don’t think it has been very well notified to all residents on the surrounding roads, Ash Street, Elm Crescent, Oak Street as well as lower down Westfield Crescent. We will all be affected by increased traffic through a quiet residential estate.”

The club says there will be 98 car parking spaces which should be sufficient to ensure that there is no overspill parking on Westfield Crescent and there are pedestrian and cycle routes into the site and regular bus services.

Access will be via the existing track that leads from the end of Westfield Crescent and was the access to the old school and it will be resurfaced, widen and have a speed control device.

Planners are still considering the application, which can be viewed here
