Disability campaigner Jared O'Mara will challenge Nick Clegg for the Sheffield Hallam seat in this summer's General Election.

The Hallam Constituency Labour Party announced Mr O'Mara's candidacy today, completing Labour's lineup in Sheffield.

He will try to unseat Mr Clegg from the position he has held for the Liberal Democrats since 2005.

Mr O'Mara is a long-serving Labour member and has been a candidate in Sheffield Council elections.

Hallam Constituency Labour Party chairman Jane Thomas said: “It great the we have a young, local candidate who will carry the Labour Party’s message of a better deal for the many and not the few in Sheffield Hallam.

“Jared has a strong record of campaigning for the rights of disabled people in Sheffield and will bring experience of community involvement that few candidates can offer.

“Hallam voters came close to electing a Labour MP in 2015. Once again we have a strong, Sheffield candidate who is committed to serving the people of Hallam.”

Mr Clegg won the seat with 22,215 votes, beating Labour's Oliver Coppard who came second with 19,862.
