The soaring coronavirus infection rate, which rose again on Tuesday to pass 300 cases per 100,000 people, means tighter restrictions are likely to be imposed.

We asked you through our Facebook and Twitter channels how you felt about the prospect of going into another lockdown and if you felt prepared this time after the national measures that were taken at the beginning of the pandemic.

Here's what a few of you told us:

Tia Dory Sharp didn’t see the need for a local lockdown. “What good is it going to do?,” she said. “I live in a house where me, my husband and mother-in-law are all with compromised immune systems, but I know my daughter has less chance of catching it if she visits her nan or auntie than going to school with people we don't know.

"The fact is they need their education. People need to live and there's not much that can be done. Lockdowns obviously aren't helping anything.”

Linz Walker was equally defiant. “What's the point?,” she said. “Not everyone listened to the lockdown the first time so won't the second time either.”

Gloria Newall said: “Just let the virus run its course. If you’re going to get it you will.”

Jenny Darwin added: “A lockdown just stops it for a few weeks and then it comes back again. No one is listening now due to the fact the Government break their own rules anyway.”

Royal Mail worker Tina Bebbington claimed that people are already panicking. “Our workload has gone up again because people are buying early for Christmas,” she told us.

Jayne Newton-Smith said people not following the rules were to blame. “If people had common sense then this wouldn't be happening,” she said. “So many people have become complacent or are not bothered and are breaking the law, so Covid is creeping back up on us again.”

Nick Danford was fully prepared for another lockdown, saying: “Get it done, protect our vulnerable and protect our NHS!”

A major lockdown is needed, according to Lisa Barham. She told us: “There's people out there thinking they can't get it. Trust me you can. Me, my husband, daughter and mum all been tested positive for Covid-19 and it's not nice.”

Pat Sharpe said: “I’m sure we wouldn’t need it if everyone followed the guidelines. If it has to be done to save lives then of course I’ll do it.”

And Louis Liversidge told us: “It’s annoying when you’ve done everything that’s been asked of you, yet other people have been flouting the rules every day since day one.”
