Front bench role for Barnsley MP Stephanie Peacock

Sir Keir Starmer has selected his Shadow Cabinet, after his election as Labour Party leader - and Barnsley East MP Stephanie Peacock is set to join Labour's frontbench team.

She has been asked to serve as the shadow minister for fisheries, water and flooding.

Miss Peacock will be a part of Labour’s shadow Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs team, and will be responsible for holding the government to account on flooding prevention, defence and recovery, fishing and the Fisheries Bill, water supply and marine protection.

The appointment follows her work as the voice of flood-hit communities.

She led a debate in the House of Commons calling for urgent action to help households recovering from the November 2019 floods.

Miss Peacock said: “I am proud to have stood up for flood-hit communities in Parliament and I look forward to continuing to do so as part of Labour’s Front Bench.”
