Former NHS buildings in Sheffield suburb set to be made into over 100 houses after council officers recommend plans are given approval

The buildings, on Woofindin Road, Fulwood, were built over a 100 year period and cover a wide patch that includes mature trees protected by preservation orders, public rights of way, green belt and the Fulwood Conservation area.
It was home to NHS Health and Social Care services but the trust says it no longer needs it.

Hide AdAll buildings at the site are set to be taken down bar the Edwardian Old Fulwood House - built in 1911 for a well-known local family who manufactured snuff - which will be converted as part of the scheme.


A minimum of 132 apartments and 29 houses will be built in their place.
Council officers recommended elected members grant the application conditionally despite some concerns.
Over 30 people wrote letters to the council with their views on the plans, 31 of which were objections. Ward councillor Sue Aston also carried out a consultation which gathered 75 responses.

Hide AdResidents raised a number of concerns about issues including protecting the conservation area, increased traffic and pressure on services
There were two letters of support, one which said: "The redevelopment of the site is supported and the lessons should be learned from the blight caused by Hallam towers standing empty for so long.”
Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust agreed with not leaving it vacant but recommended planners amended the site layout to stop walkers and cyclists going off the public right of way.
Coun Andrew Sangar, representative for Fulwood ward, previously said: “We always knew the NHS was coming out so residents have been sitting and waiting for this planning application but we’re disappointed it came out in August with a short consultation period.

Hide AdA new three to four storey apartment block and two to three storey houses are planned to the east of the existing Fulwood House.
The main parkland site that sits below the existing terrace of Fulwood House would be replaced with individual ‘executive homes’ two to three storey height.
The council’s highways and planning committee will make a decision on January 28.
