Work starts soon on latest Sheffield 20mph zone
Work due to start in Arbourthorne next month
The budget has been approved for a new 20mph zone to slow down traffic in Arbourthorne, Sheffield.
Work costing £71,600 is due to start next month on the scheme, which was approved by Sheffield City Council’s transport, regeneration and climate policy committee in March.
The scheme, which also covers Norfolk Park near to Sheffield College, stretches from Talbot Street and Shrewsbury Road to Park Grange Road.
Following the completion of planning and design work, the budget was signed off yesterday (October 19) by the council’s finance and performance policy committee.

Committee chair Coun Elle Dodd, who represents the area in her Manor and Castle council ward, welcomed the move.
She also asked what progress is being made on other 20mph schemes in the pipeline. The council has carried just out a public consultation on extending 20mph zones beyond residential streets.
Finance manager Damian Watkinson said that funding was being made available should the outcome lead to changes in upcoming schemes.
