Thousands apply for small business grant from Sheffield Council

Nearly 4,000 small businesses affected by coronavirus have applied for a grant from Sheffield Council.

All the applications are currently being processed as quickly as possible, with more than 1,200 approved for payment so far, totalling more than £14 million.

The council says businesses should expect a processing time of up to 10 days before payment can be confirmed.

It is also asking business owners to check they have completed the application form correctly and all necessary evidence has been provided before submitting the application, to help avoid delays.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and investment, said: “We know the business support grants are vitally important in keeping the cash flow going for many small businesses at this time and we’re working very hard to make the process as quick and smooth as possible.

“If you have any problems or questions about the grant, please visit our website or speak to our business advisers who can give you further guidance.”

There are three grants available for small businesses in Sheffield:

£10,000 for businesses in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) or Rural Rates Relief;

£10,000 for retail, hospitality or leisure businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or less;

£25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000.
