Despite being classified as a 'City Park', council officers say Concord in Shiregreen is currently underused and not living up to its full potential.

Due to its size and interesting heritage features such as the Cruck Barn, it has the potential to be a huge asset to the area and the city as a whole.

A masterplan was commissioned in 2006 for the park and adjacent Woolley Woods and projects were suggested but nothing then happened.

Officers say despite that plan being done some time ago, it can be used as a starting point to look at potential improvements now.

They say in a report: "The aim of the project is to make Concord Park a vibrant place to visit with a variety of new facilities, creating an Active Park and destination site for the people of Shiregreen and the wider area, which contributes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

"We want to provide recreational and leisure facilities currently not available, raise the overall standard and its standing as a City Park and destination site."

The council says there is significant public health and other funding already approved to tackle health inequalities across the city.

Now they will consult with local residents on what they would like to see.

The report adds: "We want to identify barriers to using the park, install new facilities and plant new trees."
