Maltby Town Council objected to the plans, on the grounds that the service station is close to Lyden Court Care home, which houses elderly residents, and people with substance abuse problems.

The council fears that alcohol on sale at all hours may “have a knock-on effect to an already troubled area.”

Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford has also asked for the application to be rejected as it would pose a “serious risk to increasing public nuisance.”

Residents also objected against the plans, stating traffic problems, noise and light pollution, and the proximity of the location to vulnerable people.

Rotherham’s licensing sub committee was set to discuss the application publically this morning, but it was not shown on its streaming platform.
