But Labour mayor Ros Jones said the council had lost millions more since 2010 and 64 per cent of the authority’s budget is now spent on providing care for vulnerable adults and children.

Doncaster Council needs to find £17.7 million in savings by 2023.

Mr Fletcher said: “This extra money should help the council make positive changes across the area and ensure local people get the crucial local services they rely on every day.

“I will be speaking to council bosses whenever I can to ensure the money is being spent in the right places and to the benefit of everyone living in the Don Valley constituency. It is crucial councillors and council officials do not waste this money.”

Doncaster mayor Ros Jones said: “This is no way to run a country, we urgently need the four-year spending round to get some level of certainty, so we can budget effectively for the long term rather than dealing with short term one off pots of money.

“I hope the Prime Minister will deliver on his promise to level up communities across the whole country. We have suffered through over 10 years of austerity.”
